Non-Traditional Christmas movies...

So I got my list out today and started thinking about what I want to give everyone for Christmas, and when I came up blank, I started to think about gifts I’d liked that had been given to me. Then I started to laugh.

A few years ago I called my brother Alan and asked if he remembered that really, really, really scary movie we’d watched when we were kids. An ape in a cave–that’s all I had. Trog? he asked. And that was it! Trog! How could I have forgotten something that frightening was beyond me. I’d probably blocked it from my memory.

Anyway, later that year for Christmas my sister gave me Trog and I was amazed! How did you know this movie had been on my mind? Haha. Alan told her to get it for me.

So we watched it after Christmas, and when we put in the DVD I warned my family, (there were a lot of us there) that it was very, very scary. Yes, it said it was rated PG, but I remembered the fear.

And...FUNNIEST MOVIE EVER! Oh, my gosh. We never laughed so hard in our lives. I still giggle when I think of it. My husband still laughs when anyone says Trog. Scary? Well, not so much. Comedy? Not really. But because I had warned everyone so vehemently about what a scary movie it was, it became hilarious! Every scene with Trog had people rolling on the floor! Anyway, we still watch It’s a Wonderful Life, A Christmas Story, Elf, The Santa Clause, Rudolph and others, but somehow Trog is now a Christmas movie that has to be watched at our house.

Anyone else have any must watch movies at Christmas time? Traditional or otherwise?

  1. I think the best gifts are surprises. Anything I wasn't expecting. (My hubby is terrible at keeping secrets, so when he pulls it off, it's a big deal.

  2. We love Christmas Vacation. Never a Christmas goes by that we haven't watched it a dozen times. Now I'll have to check out this Trog movie. :)

  4. Lesli, my hubby can keep a secret like no other. But it's backfired and gotten him into trouble at times. ;)

  5. I'll have to find Trog, too. We love A Christmas Story (You'll shoot your eye out!), the Muppet Christmas Carol, and Elf (Does it have sugar? Then yes!).
